Have the slides from the 10/30/2005 presentation by Mark Miller been posted yet? His presentation on User Experience was excellent with lots of good tips.

Hi Bryan. Thanks for the post.

We were able to coordinate with Mark and get the files. A zip file can be found at the Meeting Info / Past Meetings / Speaker Files page. If you have any difficulties please let me know.

Thanks,

Art

The posted "TheScienceOfGreatUI.zip" file seems to be corrupted. I get a "The Compressed (zipped) folder is invalid or crrupted." error when I try to open it in Windows Explorer under XP.

It is not just Mark Miller's slides; Don Kiely's zip file is corrupt as well.

Interesting... Can others give this a try (Daniel, Mark, David)? I am able to download and use the zip file without any difficulties.

I use WinXP SP2 & simply download the file & then right-click & explore.

Hi Art,
I had the person at work with WinXP SP2 do a right-click/explore and they still get a "corrupt file" pop-up.

Best,

Brad
Someone had luck with Firefox... (guest)

I am working with the hosting entity to see if we can isolate what is happening. In the meantime, Firefox may be a good workaround as identified in Stan's message below:
------------------
To summarize the problem:

I cannot download Mark Miller’s presentation using IE 6. I’ve verified this on 5 machines on two different ISPs. I have no problem downloading using Firefox. When downloading using IE 6, the file arrives corrupt. I did a file compare between the IE download and Firefox download and the IE download is corrupted in the beginning, end and small blocks at roughly 100K intervals thru the file.

The OSes tested include Win2K SP4, WinXP SP2, Win2003 SP1. The file is absolutely corrupt; Zip recovery tools cannot salvage the IE downloaded file.

I ran a virus scan on three of the 5 systems and they come up clean (the other two belong to other people, but I have no reason to suspect a virus on any of the machines). I verified this morning that the file still transfers corrupted thru IE from the website: http://www.socaldotnet.org/MeetingInfo/PastMeetings/SpeakerFiles/tabid/212/Default.aspx. My sys admin friend thinks there is something happening on the server.

I tried the FireFox workaround and it worked beautifully for both the Mark Miller and Don Kiely decks. Thanks, Stan! (and Art for posting the workaround!)

I too tried to download both files. I can open both files. I have XP SP2, IE 6.0.

Hi CJ.

Try the FireFox solution identified in the 11/4/2005 post & let us know how that goes.

Thanks,

Art
